Vegetarian-Friendly Paia Restaurants

Best Paia Restaurants for Vegetarians

Located on Maui’s northern coastline, you’ll find the unassuming and soulful town of Paia.

Paia was formerly a sugarcane plantation village but is now increasingly a stop on the tourist trail due to its gorgeous beaches and friendly characters.

The town has become an interesting mix of art galleries, windsurfing spots, and a creative and growing collection of Paia restaurants.

If you’re visiting Paia, Maui and looking for vegetarian-friendly restaurants, you won’t be short of choice in this beachside town.

6 Best Paia Restaurants for Vegetarians

The Paia restaurants scene is as multifaceted as the town itself. Even among the vegetarian-friendly restaurants, options range from super-healthy vegan cafes to more homegrown and hidden gem establishments.

Luckily, though, there are plenty of vegetarian options for all meals of the day. Here are some of the best.

1. Paia Bay Coffee

Paia Bay Coffee serves up freshly ground, local Maui coffee beans… yet it is so much more than a coffee shop.

In fact, it is one of the best Paia restaurants for vegetarians. They serve all meals of the day and focus on local and organic ingredients, as well as providing vegan and gluten-free options.

In addition, Paia Bay Coffee even has happy hour from 4-6pm daily and specializes in craft cocktails.

Grab a vegan taco with nut-based filling, and follow it up with a Moana’s Trail cocktail.

Open Sunday to Thursday 7am – 8pm, Friday & Saturday 7am – 9pm

2. Café Des Amis

Café Des Amis is one of the most eclectic and well-loved Paia restaurants.

Although it sounds like a French restaurant, and does specialize in sweet and savory crepes, it also serves up Mediterranean mains, as well as Indian curries.

So whether you are in the mood for a fresh salad, a spicy curry, or a sweet crepe, you’ll find a good meal at Café Des Amis.

Even better, each area of the menu is full of vegetarian options.

3. Choice Health Bar

Choice Health Bar is your go-to Paia spot for yummy and trendy smoothies, juice shots, acai bowls, and more, all of which feature an emphasis on superfoods like acai, blue-green algae, and chia seeds.

And the even better news is that the entire menu is vegan!

Drop by Choice Health Bar after an early morning beach walk, and pick up the O.G. acai bowl, featuring granola, bananas, and honey as toppings.

Add a game changer iced coffee, featuring macadamia nut milk, into the mix and you’ll be set for the day.

4. Thai Spice

Thai Spice is a favorite among Paia restaurants, with a simple exterior but an ideal location within the heart of Paia Town, mere minutes from shopping and beaches.

It is said to be one of the best Thai restaurants on the entire island of Maui and features an extensive selection of vegetarian options. Try the spring rolls or Pad Thai.

As a former resident of Thailand myself, my standards are pretty high and this place does not disappoint!

Open Monday-Saturday 10am-8:30pm, Sunday 4:30pm-8:30pm

5. Paia Bowls

Paia Bowls is a one-stop shop for vegetarian-friendly and Instagram-worthy açai and smoothie bowls.

What sets Paia Bowls apart, though, is the vast amount of toppings available. Choose from regular toppings such as fruits, nut butters, granola, cacao nibs, and more.

Or, you can up your smoothie bowl game even further with adaptogenic additions such as reishi, cordyceps, collagen, spirulina, MCT oil, and other options.

The menu even lists the health benefits of their super coffee drinks, if you are looking for more than just taste bud satisfaction.

Open daily 7:30am-6pm

6. Flatbread Company

Flatbread Company is a franchise with soul. With locations across the USA, their goal is to help guests “renew their spirit”… through fantastic flatbread pizzas of course.

Find the only Flatbread Company location in the Hawaiian islands in Paia, and sit down for a mouth-watering meal.

Flatbread Company focuses on real food, locally-grown ingredients, and traditionally wood-stove style cooking. Their business is intertwined with the local economy and supports organic farmers in the area.

The menu is filled with vegetarian options, and they even offer dairy-free, vegan cheese.

Open daily 11am-10pm

Whether you are in Paia, Maui for the world-class windsurfing, the funky art galleries, or just to experience the laid back island atmosphere, you will love this beachy town.

Take your time and explore the surf and the boutique-filled streets. After all, you’ll need something to fill your time between meals!

The Paia restaurants scene may be diverse and, well, a bit unusual…but there are many tasty options for vegetarians in this small town.

Congrats on the vegetarianniversary!! I’m not sure of the exact date but I’m coming up on 18 (or 19?) years, which is insane!

Holy moly that IS insane!! I have always loved following you for that reason, even before I was vegetarian myself. Seeing all the yummy veggie food on your blog and Instagram was definitely inspiration for me!

First off great post! Also I just read the post from when you first moved to Maui but was disappointed I couldn’t post on it. I’ve been reading a lot about moving to Maui and you’re article was the one I found myself finding most beneficial for myself since I related to it so much. Of course with minimal detail, I recently ended a relationship applied to jobs in Kihei and it looks like I’m moving to Maui alone in the coming weeks. My question for you is have you found it easy to meet new people there? I realize it could be different for everyone but I’m just very curious. Thanks!

Hey Tom! Thanks for the comment! I have actually found it very easy to meet new people in Maui. There are so many ways to get involved with the community and events are happening all the time. And I think you’ll find that the island feels quite small, in that you’ll always be running into people you know! It’s been a fun adventure and I’m excited for you to experience it for yourself! Welcome to Maui 🙂
