Explore the Elements

Explore the Elements contest by Thomas Cook

For several weeks now I’ve seen this contest bouncing around the internet, one in which bloggers are asked to publish travel photography that expresses or represents each of the four elements–earth, water, fire, and air.  They then nominate a handful of other bloggers to do the same.

Incredible prizes are at stake in this little photoblogging contest hosted by Thomas Cook; cameras, laptops, iPhones with noise cancelling headphones, or thousands of dollars for travel (can you tell this contest was designed for travel bloggers?) are awarded to the winners.

I never suspected I’d be participating in this contest until I received a very last-minute nomination (it ends tonight at midnight!) from the lovely Ashlea of A Globe Well Travelled.  I thought it could be fun to sneak in an entry if for no other reason than because I love a good excuse to rifle through my photo archives for hours-on-end–ah, memories! What’s more, I just started using Adobe Lightroom for photo editing and to say that I’m obsessed would be the understatement of the century.

Ahem.  So, here we are.

Earth, water, fire, and air according to the camera of La Mochilera.

Earth

“Represents the hard, solid objects of the earth. Associated with stubbornness, collectiveness, physicality and gravity.”

Water

“Represents the fluid, flowing, formless things in the world. Associated with emotion, defensiveness, adaptability, flexibility, suppleness, and magnetism.”

Fire

“Represents the energetic, forceful, moving things in the world. Associated with security, motivation, desire, intention, and an outgoing spirit.”

Air

“Represents things that grow, expand, and enjoy freedom of movement. Associated with will, elusiveness, evasiveness, benevolence, compassion, and wisdom.”

Now, however pointless this may be seeing as the contest ends tonight, I’m required to nominate five more bloggers to put their photography where their mouths are.

The bloggers I would love to see explore the elements through travel photography are:

Polly – A Girl & Her Travels

Katie – From Shores to Skylines

Andrew and Emily – along dusty roads

Justine – The Travel Lush

David – Guerrilla Gallivanter

Many thanks again to Ashlea for nominating me and giving me the chance to have a little fun with this contest!  Good luck to all the talented photographers participating!

Which of my photo entries is your favorite?  Have you ever explored the elements through photography?
